Living in Pflugerville and Hutto

Pflugerville sits in Travis County about 15 to 20 miles northeast of downtown Austin, with a small Main Street downtown and Lake Pflugerville. Hutto lies farther northeast along US 79 in Williamson County and is known for its hippo mascot, which you will spot all over town.

What we love about it

Lake Pflugerville has a 3-mile loop trail, a beach area, a fishing pier and a boat ramp. Downtown Pflugerville has local spots like Hanover's Draught Haus, a sports bar by day and live-music venue by night. In Hutto, the Co-Op District is taking shape on a former cotton gin site, with restaurants and shops and more on the way.

Getting around and schools

SH 130 and SH 45 (both tolled), FM 685, Pflugerville Parkway and US 79 are the main routes. Pflugerville ISD serves Pflugerville, and Hutto ISD serves Hutto. School boundaries can change and do not always follow city lines, so we always suggest confirming the assigned schools for any specific address with the district.

Homes you'll find here

Most homes here are single-family houses in subdivisions, many built in the last few decades, with plenty of newer construction in Hutto. You will also find some older homes close to downtown Pflugerville and Hutto's historic core.

Parks, events and weekends

Deutschen Pfest is Pflugerville's long-running German heritage festival, with music, food and fun. Hutto Lake Park has a trail around the lake, fishing and picnic spots, and Lake Pflugerville's loop is a favorite for a walk or run. Downtown Austin and Round Rock are both an easy drive.

Before you buy

Check a few things by the home's address, not just the city name: the school district, the property tax rates on the county appraisal district's site, and whether the home is in a MUD, PID or HOA, each of which can add its own taxes, assessments or dues. Look the home up on FEMA's flood maps, get homeowners insurance quotes early, and confirm which electric provider serves it, since that varies across the Austin area. SH 130 and SH 45 are tolled, so a toll tag helps.
