Kyle and Buda are neighboring Hays County cities along I-35, about 15 miles (Buda) and 20 miles (Kyle) south of downtown Austin. Buda has a historic Main Street along Onion Creek, and Kyle has a downtown square by the train depot.
In Buda, Buda Mill and Grain is a restored mill complex with shops and places to eat, and the Onion Creek Trail is a paved path with a creek bridge near Buda City Park. In Kyle, Lake Kyle Park has an inclusive playground and connects to the Plum Creek Trail, and Mary Kyle Hartson City Square Park hosts Market Days downtown.
I-35, SH 45 Southeast, FM 1626, FM 967 and FM 150 are the main routes, with SH 130 (tolled) to the east. Hays CISD serves Kyle and Buda. School boundaries can change and do not always follow city lines, so we always suggest confirming the assigned schools for any specific address with the district.
Most homes here are single-family houses in newer subdivisions, many with community pools and trails. You will also find older homes near the historic downtowns in both cities, and some homes on larger lots toward the country.
Each spring, the Buda Lions Club Country Fair brings the famous Wiener Dog Races to Buda City Park. Kyle's downtown square hosts Market Days and seasonal events, and the Onion Creek and Plum Creek trails are good for an easy walk or ride. San Marcos and Austin are each a quick drive up or down I-35.
Check a few things by the home's address, not just the city name: the school district, the property tax rates on the county appraisal district's site, and whether the home is in a MUD, PID or HOA, each of which can add its own taxes, assessments or dues. Look the home up on FEMA's flood maps, get homeowners insurance quotes early, and confirm which electric provider serves it, since that varies across the Austin area. Drive the I-35 commute at rush hour before you decide.
