Living in Arlington

Arlington sits midway between Dallas and Fort Worth. Its Entertainment District is home to AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Field and Six Flags Over Texas, and its downtown sits next to UT Arlington.

What we love about it

Game days are a big deal here, from Cowboys football at AT&T Stadium (which also offers daily tours) to Rangers baseball at Globe Life Field, with restaurants and entertainment at Texas Live! next door. For a quieter day, River Legacy Park has wooded trails along the Trinity River, and the Levitt Pavilion downtown hosts free outdoor concerts.

Getting around and schools

I-30, I-20 and SH 360 are the main routes. Transit is the city's Arlington On-Demand rideshare, which also reaches the CentrePort station on the Trinity Railway Express. Arlington ISD serves most of the city, plus Pantego and Dalworthington Gardens, with parts of Arlington in Mansfield, Hurst-Euless-Bedford, Kennedale and Fort Worth ISDs. School boundaries can change and do not always follow city lines, so we always suggest confirming the assigned schools for any specific address with the district.

Homes you'll find here

Arlington has a wide mix of homes, from established neighborhoods near downtown and UT Arlington to newer subdivisions in south Arlington, plus townhomes and condos near the Entertainment District.

Parks, events and weekends

Lake Arlington offers fishing and boating, and Arlington Highlands is a favorite for shopping and dining. The Arlington Museum of Art downtown hosts rotating exhibits, and between Cowboys, Rangers and big concerts, there is almost always something happening in the Entertainment District.

Before you buy

Check a few things by the home's address, not just the city name: the school district, the property tax rates on the county appraisal district's site, and whether the home is in a MUD, PID or HOA, each of which can add its own taxes, assessments or dues. Look the home up on FEMA's flood maps and get homeowners insurance quotes early. Hail is common in North Texas, so ask how the roof's age and any wind and hail deductible affect your coverage. If you are looking near the Entertainment District, visit on a game or concert day to see how traffic flows. Most of Arlington is in an Oncor area, where you choose your electric provider at PowerToChoose.org.
