What we love about it

Watters Creek in Allen is an open-air shopping and dining village with free outdoor concerts, and Allen Premium Outlets is right nearby. Historic Downtown McKinney is full of galleries, boutiques and antiques around the square, with a performing arts center in the old courthouse. The Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary adds trails, ponds and wildlife close to home.

Getting around and schools

US 75 and SH 121 (Sam Rayburn Tollway) are the main routes, with US 380 through McKinney. Allen ISD serves most of Allen. McKinney ISD serves most of McKinney, with parts of the city in Frisco, Prosper and Allen ISDs. School boundaries can change and do not always follow city lines, so we always suggest confirming the assigned schools for any specific address with the district.

Homes you'll find here

You will find historic homes on the streets near downtown McKinney, established neighborhoods across both cities, and many newer subdivisions to the north and west. Townhomes and newer homes near shopping districts round out the mix.

Parks, events and weekends

Before you buy

Check a few things by the home's address, not just the city name: the school district, the property tax rates on the county appraisal district's site, and whether the home is in a MUD, PID or HOA, each of which can add its own taxes, assessments or dues. Look the home up on FEMA's flood maps and get homeowners insurance quotes early. Hail is common in North Texas, so ask how the roof's age and any wind and hail deductible affect your coverage. Homes in McKinney's historic districts may have design guidelines for exterior changes, so check with the city before you plan a project.
